Policy Strategies to Reduce the Consumption of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages
October 30, 2017 2:00 pm Eastern Time
A growing body of evidence suggests that sugar-sweetened beverages are a significant contributor to obesity and multiple chronic illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and poor oral health. In response, states and municipalities have considered several policy solutions, including taxes, to de-incentivize and reduce the consumption of these unhealthy beverages. Join this webinar to learn the latest: the wide range of policy options being pursued, the current state of sugar-sweetened tax campaigns and tax policy implementation, the returns on investment sugar-sweetened beverage policy efforts have for foundations and their communities, and how grantmakers of all sizes and levels of policy experience can become involved in efforts to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. Speakers include Tessa Hale of Boulder County Public Health Department, Jim Krieger of Healthy Food America, and Anna Lappe of Panta Rhea Foundation.
