GIH is seeking nominations for its board of directors for terms beginning immediately following its annual meeting in March 2011. Nominations are due September 9.

Implementing Health Care Reform: Responding to the Challenge [ September 8, 2010 ]

With provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act set to take effect over the next four years, grantmakers and their grantees have been developing activities to address the early stages of health care reform implementation. To support philanthropy's response to this sweeping and unprecedented legislation, GIH has released Implementing Health Care Reform: Funders and Advocates Respond to the Challenge, a report based on over 40 interviews with national and state grantmakers and advocacy organizations about their initial work around implementation. Join this one-hour audioconference to hear the report's key findings and recommendations, and to learn about the current activities, future plans, thorniest challenges, and strategic advice of your grantmaking peers.

Call for Terrance Keenan Award Nominations [ September 10, 2010 ]

GIH is seeking nominations for The Terrance Keenan Leadership Award in Health Philanthropy, awarded annually to an outstanding grantmaker whose leadership and thoughtful application of philanthropic resources have forged permanent improvements in health through innovation, risk taking, and boldness. Nominations must be received by Friday, September 10, 2010.

Health Reform and the Oral Health Safety Net [ September 16, 2010 ]

The oral health safety net is a vital source of care for uninsured, Medicaid, and other vulnerable patients, but it does not catch everyone. Deficiencies in safety net operations and systems, combined with current economic difficulties, have created a particularly challenging environment in which to provide care.  

Fortunately, health reform creates an opportunity for improvement. This webinar will outline major health reform provisions that will affect the oral health safety net, as well as highlight best practices for addressing current and upcoming challenges.

Terrance Keenan Institute for Emerging Leaders in Health Philanthropy [ September 28, 2010 ]

The Terrance Keenan Institute for Emerging Leaders in Health Philanthropy aims to nurture the next generation of leaders, build relationships among them, and connect them with established figures in the field. Institute fellows will spend two days with seasoned foundation leaders and recognized nonprofit leaders. The program will emphasize leadership development, mentoring, and building collegial connections that endure throughout the participants’ careers. Nominations are due April 15, 2010.

2010 Fall Forum: Improving Women's Health from Communities to Care Settings [ November 9, 2010 ]

Save the date! The 2010 Grantmakers In Health Fall Forum will be a national meeting on women’s health that examines women’s primary health challenges across the age spectrum from youth to old age and pays special attention to the social and environmental factors—the social determinants of health—that shape women’s life options, choices, and health-related behavior. Be on the lookout for the meeting brochure and registration information after Labor Day.
