Call for GIH Board Nominations

Access downloadable attachments > Grantmakers In Health (GIH), an educational organization serving staff, executives, and trustees of foundations and corporate giving programs working in the health field, is seeking nominations for its board of directors for terms beginning immediately following the annual meeting in March 2011. There are up to four board openings.  

The board seeks candidates who represent the diversity of the field across a variety of dimensions, including gender, race and ethnicity, political ideology, geographic location, foundation type, foundation size, and personal skills and life experiences.  Qualified candidates must be:  

• interested in furthering the purposes of GIH;
• active members of the board or staff of a U.S. grantmaking organization in health philanthropy, or others whom the board believes can make a valuable contribution to the work of the organization; and     
• over the age of 18.

The board is especially interested in people who have: experience on other boards, the ability to help raise funds to support GIH's activities, financial expertise, broad knowledge of health issues, and a facility for interacting and working with people of diverse backgrounds and interests. It is also interested in candidates from small foundations (assets less than $100 million) and community foundations, as well as in persons of color.

Nominations of executives, senior staff, and trustees meeting these criteria are encouraged. Self-nominations are also welcome. Terms are for three years, with the opportunity for renewal for a second three-year term. There are three board meetings annually. Nominees will receive a brief e-mail questionnaire to complete the nomination packet. The full board will consider nominations at its November 2010 meeting.
