Background: The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, located in Southeastern Pennsylvania, is a conversion health foundation created in 2003 with assets of approximately $75,000,000 and annual grantmaking of $2.3 million. The foundation's service population includes 150,000 residents living within a 10-mile radius of Pottstown. For the past six years, the foundation has funded programs to reduce obesity in children and families. It foster and promote active, healthy living through grants for nutrition and fitness programs based at public and private schools. The foundation also funds studies of current needs and future wellness strategies, including needs assessments measuring health outcomes, psychographics for social marketing, and a recently completed regional recreation study.
