GIH Web Site Receives National Recognition

Health Award Logo

WASHINGTON, DC GIH's redesigned Web site, launched in February 2004, has been awarded a silver medal in the World Wide Web Health Awards, a semiannual program that recognizes the best health-related Web sites for consumers and professionals.  GIH's site, www.gih.org, received recognition in the Association/Professional Society category.

“GIH's Web site is a rich source of information on issues that matter most to health grantmakers,” said Lauren LeRoy, GIH president and CEO. “We are pleased that our efforts to provide new tools and new content are being recognized with this prestigious award.”

Features of GIH's Web site include:

·         information on key health issues of interest to health funders, including access, aging, children/youth, disparities, health promotion, mental health, public health, and quality;

·         a password-protected Resource Center database to search over 11,000 grants and initiatives from more than 300 foundations and corporate giving programs;

·         answers to frequently asked questions that guide health grantmakers on starting a foundation, board issues, finance, managing operations, grantmaking, evaluation, communications, and new health foundations;

·         a growing library of GIH publications on health and operations topics; and

·         logistical and registration information related to GIH's calendar of events.

The goal of the World Wide Web Health Awards is to provide a “seal of quality” for electronic health information.  The awards program is organized by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials.

GIH's worked in partnership with iapps, a full-service Internet consulting, development, and design firm, to change the look and feel of the organization's Web site.
