GIH Welcomes New Board Members

Grantmakers In Health announces the appointment of four new members to its board of directors as well as a new slate of officers for 2006-2007. Raymond Baxter, Debbie Chang, Crystal Hayling, and Annie Wohlgenant were approved as the newest members of GIH's board of directors and took their seats immediately following GIH's Annual Meeting on Health Philanthropy in Phoenix.  

Raymond Baxter is senior vice president, community benefit for Kaiser Permanente.  He leads the organization's activities to fulfill its social mission, including participation in public health and coverage programs, free care and dues subsidy programs, research, education, educational theatre, grantmaking, and support for community based organizations.  

Debbie Chang is senior vice president and executive director of Nemours Division of Health and Prevention Services where she is creating and leading a new operating division devoted to developing, implementing, evaluating and promoting model programs in the area of child health promotion and disease prevention.   

Crystal Hayling joined Blue Shield of California Foundation as president and CEO in October 2004.  With 20 years of nonprofit and foundation experience, Hayling has advocated for women, minorities, low income families and children through a variety of leadership positions. Previously, Hayling was senior advisor for the Marguerite Casey Foundation, a Seattle-based independent grant making foundation dedicated to helping low income families strengthen their voice and mobilize their communities to advocate for social justice.    

Annie Wohlgenant is vice president for philanthropy at HealthONE Alliance, a nonprofit philanthropic organization dedicated to improving health and health care for all Coloradans.  Previously, she directed the health program area at the Rose Community Foundation (RCF) where she was instrumental in creating Child Health Advocates (CHA), a nonprofit organization that contracted with the state to find and enroll eligible children in Child Health Plan Plus, a publicly subsidized, privately administered children's health insurance program that now serves over 50,000 formerly uninsured children.  

The board also approved a new slate of officers for the coming year. Gene Cochrane, president of the Duke Endowment, is board chair; and Peter Goodwin of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is GIH's new treasurer. Cristina Regalado, vice president of programs at The California Wellness Foundation remainsvice chair. Karen Voci, senior vice president for programs at the Rhode Island Foundation, continues as board secretary; while Margaret O'Bryon, president and chief executive officer of Consumer Health Foundation, remainsmember-at-large.  

Jeanette Corbett, president of Quantum Foundation, and Anthony So of Duke University concluded their terms on the board this year. GIH thanks them for their years of service.
