SUMMARY:Next Steps in Health Equity: Addressing Racial and Economic Inequality
DESCRIPTION:New York\, New York \nReview a Social Media Recap \nHealth philanthropy has played a critical role in efforts to reduce disparities in health care and tackle the complex factors at the root of unequal health outcomes. As foundations seek new ways to advance health equity\, there are calls for the field to move further upstream and address widening racial and economic inequality\, which has profound effects on the health of low-income people\, communities of color\, and other vulnerable populations. \nThis strategy session brought together funders for a high-level discussion about innovative strategies to improve health by reducing racial and economic inequality\, advancing social justice\, and investing in long term systems change. This meeting explored how other funders are grappling with these challenging issues\, fostering cross-sector collaboration\, and sharing ideas for next steps in health equity. \nNext Steps in Health Equity: Addressing Racial and Economic Inequality took place on Tuesday\, July 19\, 2016 in New York\, New York\, at Philanthropy New York. \nSupport provided by the Aetna Foundation\, Inc. \nRelated Materials \n\nStanford Social Innovation Review: Innovations in Health Equity\nAsset Funders Network: Women and Wealth\nConsumer Health Foundation: Work and Health\nA Necessity\, Not a Benefit: NYC’s Low-Income Moms Discuss their Struggles without Paid Family Leave and Job Security\nFSG: Breaking the Barriers to Specialty Care\nThe Choir Book: A Framework for Social Justice Philanthropy\n\nRelated Content\n\nAgenda – Next Steps in Health Equity – 2016 July Meeting in New York – PDF document\, 125 KB\nJeanne Ayers\, Minnesota Department of Health – Next Steps in Health Equity – PDF document\, 2018 KB\nAletha Maybank\, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene – A Commitment to Advance Racial Equity – PDF document\, 1702 KB
