DESCRIPTION:Complete Agenda Print Agenda Event Microsite \nThe 2026 Grantmakers In Health (GIH) Annual Conference on Health Philanthropy\, was held on June 8 – 11 in Baltimore\, MD\, at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor. Every year\, GIH brings together the bright minds\, seasoned experts\, and innovative practitioners working in health philanthropy to discuss the important issues facing the field. \n\n\nReporting from the 2026 Annual Conference on Health Philanthropy\n\n\n\n\nPart 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 \n\n\nLife\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Health\nTwo hundred and fifty years ago America’s founders came together to say the current system of government was not working for them. This act sparked the birth of a new nation founded on principles of freedom\, equality\, and democracy. The document they signed clearly articulates the founders’ belief in the right to life\, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Health—and the ability to lead a healthy and productive life—is deeply intertwined with these ideals. Today\, cuts to critical health and social programs; attacks on freedom of speech; threats to non-profit organizations; and federal overreach threaten our fundamental freedoms as well as our health and well-being. The 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding is an ideal backdrop for us to come together and craft a vision for health that works for everyone. \nReflections on the Theme \nPlenary Session Videos\nLife\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Health  \nThe opening plenary of the 2026 GIH Annual Conference began with Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk\, Speaker of the House for the Maryland General Assembly. Then featured a panel discussion with: \n\nRichard Besser\, President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\nCara V. James\, President and CEO of Grantmakers In Health and\nDr. Ibram X. Kendi\, Director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Howard University.\n\n \nTerrance Keenan and Andy Hyman Awards Luncheon \nTune in to be inspired by Gladys Vega of La Colaborativa as she was honored with the 2026 Andy Hyman Award for Advocacy and Mark Constantine of the Dogwood Health Trust as he was honored with the 2026 Terrance Keenan Leadership Award. \n \nGetting in Formation: Organizing for the Future \nDeepak Bhargava\, President of the Freedom Together Foundation\, DaMareo Cooper\, Executive Director of the Center for Popular Democracy\, and Joe Goldman\, President of the Democracy Fund delve into a discussion on the need for organizing. \n \nHow Can I Reach You? Building Trust Through Communication to Enable Change \nHow we share information\, tell stories\, and communicate across movements shapes our collective power to create change. The closing plenary will bring together award-winning storytellers\, organizers\, and advocates to explore how we can strengthen the information and communications ecosystem to sustain the work of health equity. Together\, we’ll examine what it takes to create a more connected\, resilient\, and effective infrastructure for mobilizing people and organizations toward the structural changes needed to achieve better health for all.
