DESCRIPTION:Meeting Overview Agenda FAQs Print Agenda \nThe 2023 Grantmakers In Health (GIH) Fall Forum provided policy-engaged funders with information on current issues\, access to leading thinkers\, and connections with grantmaking peers. This year’s theme was Feeding Hearts and Minds: Food as Medicine\, Divided Media\, and Implications for Public Policy.   Drawing on GIH’s new policy agenda and recognizing that policy not only occurs in Congress but in federal agencies and at state and local levels\, we addressed timely policy topics\, including: the Medicaid unwinding\, Medicare Advantage\, the Farm Bill reauthorization\, and Food as Medicine. We also discussed how our current information ecosystem—which is characterized by the simultaneous rise of social media and the decline of local media—is eroding trust in health institutions and public health officials and inhibiting our nation’s ability to address critical health needs and eliminate disparities.   Throughout the conference\, we highlighted opportunities for philanthropic action\, public-private partnerships\, and policy change to promote better health for all through more equitable health systems and a healthier information ecosystem. Over 150 participants joined us for the chance to discuss these important topics\, network with policy makers and other funders\, and identify opportunities for collaboration. DESCRIPTION:2024 Agenda \nHealth Policy Exchange: The New Fall Forum\nWe are excited to announce that the annual Grantmakers In Health (GIH) Fall Forum has been rebranded as the Health Policy Exchange. The new name reflects the multi-day conference’s purpose: to provide opportunities for health funders focused on policy to network with policymakers and other funders\, exchange ideas and best practices\, and identify opportunities for collaboration.  \nThe theme of the 2024 Health Policy Exchange was Beyond the Ballot: Advancing Policy in a New Administration. We discussed the election results’ impact on philanthropy’s work advancing better health for all\, delved into critical policy issues that affect the country\, and received updates from the Hill. \nOther topics explored by participants included opportunities for cross-sector collaboration in public health\, updates on health policy at the state level\, philanthropy and the Supreme Court\, the changing landscape of women’s health\, and philanthropy’s role in supporting systems change. \nFunder CEOs convened for a post-election conversation about navigating the new administration\, including opportunities and challenges related to health equity. This dialogue continued the discussion begun at the June 2024 Annual Conference and will solidify relationships among funder CEOs as we move forward collectively in pursuing our health missions. \n2024 Lauren LeRoy Health Policy Lecture\n \nDr. Ashish Jha\, Dean of the School of Public Health and Professor of Health Services\, Policy and Practice at Brown University delivered the 2024 Lauren LeRoy Health Policy Lecture at the GIH Health Policy Exchange! \nHe spoke about his long career in public health\, his work on COVID-19\, and his thoughts on the current policy landscape. \nOn the outlook for the ACA\, Medicaid\, and Medicare during the next administration\, Dr. Jha said\, “We still have 10 states who haven’t expanded Medicaid. I don’t know that we’ll see much more expansion. What’s going to happen on the Medicaid side is that they are going to put in work requirements … on the Medicare side of things is that we have gone to 55 percent Medicare Advantage—Medicare Advantage has taken over Medicare. The Biden administration has tried to put some brakes on that\, but my bet is that the brakes come off. We’ll be at 70 – 75 percent after four years.” \n

DESCRIPTION:2025 Agenda \nThe GIH Health Policy Exchange is held annually to provide policy-engaged funders with information on current issues\, access to leading thinkers\, and as a venue to make connections with grantmaking peers. The 2025 theme was Protecting the Freedom to Give. Against a backdrop of recent federal funding cuts\, executive orders\, and threats to philanthropy\, it is more important than ever for health funders to educate\, advocate\, and collaborate to support the people\, places\, and things that are important to us.   \nOn Tuesday\, November 18\, we led GIH Hill Day\, leading conference attendees to directly engage with policymakers to underscore the critical role of health funders and share how policy changes are affecting communities nationwide. This full-day event included a training and practice session\, meetings with policymakers and their staff\, and a debriefing session.  \nWednesday kicked off with a local perspective from two DC Area foundations focused on building health equity\, then delved into Medicaid policy changes and funder strategies for how to respond. Thursday we learned about the critical importance of a strong SNAP program\, the health effects of immigration policy changes\, and how to communicate the role of health foundations. After the Lauren LeRoy Health Policy Lecture\, we charted the path forward for health equity\, and workshopped collaborative opportunities for funder policy engagement followed by appetizers and open time for networking. Friday we focused on strengthening health funders’ legal strategies\, the link between health and democracy\, and concludes the conference with collaboration/response workshop and an unprogrammed networking lunch.  \n\nClosing Remarks: 2025 Health Policy Exchange\n\n\nPresident and CEO of Grantmakers In Health (GIH)\, Cara V.
