SUMMARY:2014 GIH Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:2014 Agenda at a Glance Agenda Book \nAtlanta\, Georgia \nThe Power of Voice\nFoundations and corporate giving programs wield enormous influence. At their best\, they use this influence to search for next generation ideas; test new models and bring them to scale; and take advantage of philanthropy’s staying power to strengthen community resiliency\, build new fields of work\, and focus on issues over time. \nWith this great influence\, however\, comes a great responsibility: to take an active role in securing positive change. When\, where\, and how should philanthropy use the power of its voice? When\, where\, and how should it lift up the voice of others? These questions inspired lively discussion within the field. \nThe 2014 GIH annual meeting The Power of Voice\, held March 5-7\, reflected on the power of voice in all of its manifestations. \n\n2014 Annual Meeting Registration Form\n2014 Annual Meeting Brochure

SUMMARY:Using Technological Innovation to Promote Community Wellness: A Strategy for Equity
DESCRIPTION:When: \nTuesday\, March 18 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern \nWho: \n\nGillian Barclay\, Aetna Foundation\nAlyse Sabina\, Aetna Foundation\nAndrea Parker\, Northeastern University\nGraham Colditz\, Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine\n\nWhat: \nDigital health is an increasingly popular strategy that uses a variety of rapidly evolving technologies and platforms to improve individual and population health outcomes\, increase health knowledge\, and empower decision making. These tools can be a “great equalizer” that grants everyone access to critical knowledge and engages them in action to improve their own health and that of the community. As the great equalizer\, technology and digital health can be important contributors to systems change efforts to increase racial and ethnic health equity and to reduce health care disparities. This webinar explored the opportunities for health funders to support digital health innovation as a strategic approach that enhances community wellness and promotes racial and ethnic health equity. \nRelated Content\n\nUsing Technological Innovation to Promote Community Wellness: A Strategy for Equity – PDF document\, 3021 KB

SUMMARY:How Do We Save Recess?
DESCRIPTION:When: \nThursday March 27 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern \nWho: \n\nMary Haley\, Action for Healthy Kids\nAmy Moyer\, Action for Healthy Kids\nAnne Lionberger\, Chicago Public Schools\nJohn Kitchens\, CSX Transportation\n\nWhat: \nWith schools facing increasing pressure to meet standardized scholastic benchmarks\, every minute of the school day has become a precious commodity that has led many to cut out extracurricular activities such as recess. Ironically\, the research indicates that physical activity\, in fact\, helps improve academic performance and classroom learning. This webinar provided funders with an update on what some are calling a “War on Recess” and discuss different policy and program strategies being implemented to help keep recess in schools. \nRelated Content\n\nHow Do We Save Recess? – PDF document\, 2068 KB
