SUMMARY:Examining the Results: Children\, Families\, and the ACA

This webinar explored the latest research\, and discussed challenges and opportunities for philanthropy. Speakers included: Joan Alker of the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute\, Center for Children and Families and Genevieve Kenney of the Urban Institute. Hispanic Children’s Coverage Children’s Coverage at a Crossroads (ACS) A First Look at Children’s Health Insurance Coverage under the ACA in 2014 Health Insurance Coverage for Parents Under the ACA in 2014. \nRelated Content\n\nPresentation – Examining the Results: Children\, Families\, and the ACA – Kenney – PDF document\, 192 KB\nPresentation – Examining the Results: Children\, Families\, and the ACA – Alker – PDF document\, 591 KB

SUMMARY:Improving the Health of Parents\, Children\, and Families through Public-Private Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Washington\, DC \nEnsuring that every parent\, child\, and family has a healthy and bright future requires thoughtfully-designed collaborations\, including public-private partnerships. This meeting allowed grantmakers the opportunity to spend a day in strategic discussion with senior leaders at the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau. \nThis high-level conversation explored opportunities to support parents (such as maternal health before\, during and after pregnancy and paternal involvement in pregnancy and child-rearing); to help infants thrive (such as home visiting and infant mortality); and to sustain healthy building blocks in early childhood (such as home visiting\, safety and injury prevention\, and early literacy). \n\nMeeting Location \nThe Pew Charitable Trusts\n901 E Street NW\nWashington\, DC 20004 \nRelated Content\n\nArea Hotels – PDF document\, 244 KB\nParking Information – PDF document\, 207 KB\nArea Dining – PDF document\, 236 KB\nImproving the Health of Parents Children and Families Agenda – PDF document\, 130 KB\nTaking Care of You – 1 – PDF document\, 578 KB\nTaking Care of You – 2 – PDF document\, 1219 KB\nPresentation – Improving Pregnancy Outcomes – PDF document\, 1418 KB\nPresentation – The Maternal\, Infant\, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program – PDF document\, 905 KB

SUMMARY:Setting the Conditions for Health: Promoting Equity for Boys and Men of Color
DESCRIPTION:The health and well-being indicators for young men and boys of color fall at the bottom of nearly every scale. Increasing opportunities for this population will require holistic approaches that act on the root causes of inequity. This webinar highlighted strategies funders are using to improve the lives of young men and boys of color by addressing social determinants of health\, including education\, employment\, and trauma. Speakers included: Dwanda Moore and Gregory Rattler of the Foundation for the Mid South\, Sammy Nunez of Fathers and Families of San Joaquin\, and Lacy Serros of the Just and Fair Schools Fund. \nRelated Content\n\nPresentation – Setting the Conditions for Health: Promoting Equity for Boys and Men of Color – PDF document\, 4656 KB

SUMMARY:Climate Change\, Equity\, and Health: How Funders Can Make a Difference
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored by The Convergence Partnership and Health and Environmental Funders Network \nClimate change is a threat multiplier\, posing the greatest danger for communities already bearing the burden of health and environmental challenges. Slowing the effects of worsening air and water quality\, higher food prices\, hotter temperatures\, and extreme weather events\, particularly for low-income populations and communities of color\, will require both short- and long-term action. This webinar explored climate change through the lens of the social determinants of health; the long-term and immediate health and equity benefits of climate change strategies; and the ways in which health\, equity\, and environmental funders can intensify their impact. Speakers included: Karla Fortunato of Health and Environmental Funders Network\, Faith Mitchell of Grantmakers In Health\, Linda Rudolph of Public Health Institute\, and Loel Solomon of Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit. \nRelated Content\n\nPresentation – GIH Climate Change – PDF document\, 374 KB\nPresentation – PHI Climate Change 1 – PDF document\, 272 KB\nPresentation – PHI Climate Change 2 – PDF document\, 4263 KB\nPresentation – HEFN Climate Change – PDF document\, 1340 KB
