SUMMARY:Crafting Media Strategies that Accelerate Policy Change
DESCRIPTION:The Westin Georgetown | Washington\, DC \n \nThis strategy session was part of the 2015 Fall Forum. \n8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nMedia communications offer a powerful tool for amplifying advocacy messages\, targeting influential audiences\, building public will\, and influencing key decisionmakers. Technological advances have led to a proliferation of media platforms\, simultaneously expanding the reach\, flexibility\, and complexity of media advocacy. This strategy session examined how the strategic use of media can expedite health policy objectives and will consider how funders can optimize their media investments. When and how should media communications be incorporated into an advocacy strategy? What capacities do funders and grantees need to develop in order to use media most effectively? How can funders leverage the power of media without draining their grantmaking budgets? Join your colleagues to explore these and other compelling topics. \nCosponsored by Media Impact Funders \n\nReview a Social Media Recap\nContinue the conversation on Twitter at #GIHFF\n\n\nHOTEL INFORMATION \nThe Westin Georgetown\n2350 M Street NW\nWashington\, DC 20037 \nRelated Content\n\nAgenda: Crafting Media Strategies that Accelerate Policy Change – PDF document\, 209 KB\nOnline Examples (in order presented) – PDF document\, 225 KB\nPresentation – Introduction – Vince Stehle – PDF document\, 829 KB\nPresentation – Successful Media Investments – Joe Pyle – PDF document\, 471 KB\nPresentation – Effective Communications Strategies – Alison Betty – PDF document\, 1068 KB\nPresentation – Change.org – Pulin Modi – Microsoft PowerPoint presentation\, 1956 KB

SUMMARY:Behavioral Health Equity: Advancing Systems Change
DESCRIPTION:The Westin Georgetown | Washington\, DC \n \nThis strategy session was part of the 2015 Fall Forum. \n8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nEvery community is affected by addiction and mental health issues. Although there is growing recognition of the importance of addressing substance use\, mental illness\, trauma\, and emotional well-being\, approaches and systems are too often siloed and disparities persist. \nThose focused on adverse childhood experiences\, justice-involved youth\, integrated care\, the opioid epidemic\, and other critical issues joined together to discuss tactics and explore common questions\, including: \n\nWhat are the emerging trends and key opportunities for advancing behavioral health?\nHow can funders leverage the Affordable Care Act\, Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity law\, and other timely policies to accelerate change?\nWhere can philanthropy better align and coordinate efforts to improve the continuum of prevention\, early intervention\, treatment\, and recovery supports?\n\nThis timely conversation helped funders map out behavioral health approaches\, forecast future scenarios\, and plan for the next phase of work. Participants explored potential areas for collaboration and emerged with new ideas\, contacts\, and concrete action steps to effectively advance systems change at the local\, state\, and national levels. \nAs part of this meeting\, Michael Botticelli\, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy\, delivered the third annual Lauren LeRoy Health Policy Lecture which is available as a GIH Podcast. \nSupport provided by Conrad N. Hilton Foundation\, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation\, The New York Community Trust\, and Recover Alaska. \n\nHOTEL INFORMATION \nThe Westin Georgetown\n2350 M Street NW\nWashington\, DC 20037 \nRelated Content\n\nAgenda – Behavioral Health Equity: Advancing Systems Change – PDF document\, 216 KB\nGIH 2015 Fall Forum Graphic Recording Images – PDF document\, 2899 KB\nPresentation – 21st Century Drug Policy: Implications for Research and Practice – Michael Botticelli – PDF document\, 3241 KB\nHandout – Online Resources Suggested by Speakers – PDF document\, 67 KB\n2015 Lauren LeRoy Health Policy Lecture Remarks: Michael Botticelli
