SUMMARY:Spreading and Scaling Health Care Innovations that Improve Quality and Lower Costs
DESCRIPTION:High-performance health care is possible\, and already exists in pockets of excellence across the country. This webinar discussed efforts to transform U.S. primary care. The Peterson Center on Healthcare\, established by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation\, has identified 10 distinguishing features of primary care practices that deliver high-quality care at a lower-than-average total cost and is examining how to replicate these features in other primary care practices. Speakers included: Jeffrey Selberg and Julia Murphy of the Peterson Center on Healthcare and Prabhjot Singh of the Mount Sinai Health System. \nRelated Content\n\nPresentation – Spreading and Scaling Health Care Innovations that Improve Quality and Lower Costs – PDF document\, 634 KB

SUMMARY:Addressing the Behavioral Health Needs of Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored by Grantmakers In Aging \nThe high prevalence of behavioral health issues in the elder population is rarely discussed. Yet millions of older adults across the country have undiagnosed and untreated behavioral health needs\, such as late-life depression and substance abuse\, which are lowering their quality of life and overall health. This webinar explored important behavioral health challenges facing older adults\, some of the promising practices and interventions being studied and implemented\, and opportunities for health funders to make a difference. Speakers included: Ladson Hinton of University of California-Davis\, Paulette Parker of Williamsburg Health Foundation\, and Kathryn Power of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. \nRelated Content\n\nAdditional Materials: Building Community Capacity for Older Adult Behavioral Health – PDF document\, 602 KB\nPresentation: Addressing the Behavioral Health Needs of Older Adults – PDF document\, 2609 KB

SUMMARY:How Can Metrics Inform and Advance Healthy Communities?
DESCRIPTION:Washington\, DC \n \nIn recent years\, the community development and health sectors have begun to align efforts to invest in affordable housing\, health clinics\, grocery stores\, child care centers\, and other initiatives to improve the health and well-being of low-income communities. However\, assessing the impact of these investments has been difficult because of the limited availability of data at the neighborhood level. \nThis strategy session\, How Can Metrics Inform and Advance Healthy Communities?\, addressed how community metrics can be used to improve health outcomes. The convening\, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\, brought together funders and practitioners in fields such as health\, community development\, and housing to explore new tools to measure the health impact of community investments\, hear about strategies for fostering partnerships between philanthropy and the community development sector\, and network to support cross-sector collaboration. \nHow Can Metrics Inform and Advance Healthy Communities? took place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday\, December 4\, 2015\, at the Barbara Jordan Conference Center at The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington\, DC. \nSupport provided by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation \n\nWatch opening remarks from Annie Donovan\, Director of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund\nReview the Storify recap\nContinue the conversation on Twitter at #GIHmetrics\n\n\nMetrics Tools \n\nAARP: Livability Index\nWilder Research: Metrics for Healthy Communities\nLow Income Investment Fund: Social Impact Calculator\nNeighborWorks America: Success Measures\nU.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development:\n\nHealthy Communities Assessment Tool (San Diego\, CA)\nHealthy Communities Assessment Tool (Providence\, RI)\n\n\nBuild Healthy Places Network: Measure Up\n\nAdditional Materials \n\nBuild Healthy Places Network Video\n\nRelated Content\n\nHotels near Barbara Jordan Conference Center – PDF document\, 112 KB\nAgenda: How Can Metrics Inform and Advance Healthy Communities? – PDF document\, 128 KB\nUsing Data to Address Health Disparities and Drive Investment in Healthy Neighborhoods – PDF document\, 692 KB

SUMMARY:Children's Access and Coverage
DESCRIPTION:Children’s health funders have witnessed a great deal of federal and state policy change in the last few years\, the effects of which are not yet fully known or understood. Focusing on the diverse states of California\, Colorado\, and Texas\, this webinar identified recent developments\, unmet needs\, and emerging issues in health coverage and care for low-income children\, as identified during recent interviews with knowledgeable stakeholders in these states. The webinar helped grantmakers understand the range of experiences (within and across states) that low-income families face in obtaining children’s health coverage\, and considered strategies for improving access to care. Speakers included Leslie Foster\, Tricia Higgins\, and Dana Petersen of Mathematica Policy Research.
