SUMMARY:What Funders Need to Know About "Public Charge": An Analysis of the Published Rule
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored with Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees \nThe recently proposed “public charge” rule would allow federal officials to consider immigrants’ use of Medicaid\, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program\, the Medicare Part D Low-Income Subsidy Program\, and several housing programs in determining whether to deny entry into the United States or make adjustments to legal permanent resident status. The proposed changes would likely lead to decreased enrollment in public programs among legal immigrant families and their primarily U.S.-born children\, undermining philanthropic efforts to reduce poverty\, improve health and well-being\, and expand opportunities for low-income children and families. Listeners learned more about the proposed rule and discussed ways that funders can take action. Speakers included Olivia Golden of the Center for Law and Social Policy and Marielena Hincapié of the National Immigration Law Center.

SUMMARY:Advancing Health Equity with Harm Reduction Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored by Funders Concerned About AIDS \nPhilanthropy plays a critical role in elevating and supporting strategies to eliminate health disparities and advance health equity. Harm reduction encompasses a wide range of pragmatic public health strategies designed to reduce negative physical\, emotional\, and social consequences. Harm reduction is not a new approach; its practices\, programs\, and policies have been utilized across the health care delivery system to address acute and chronic health conditions for decades. On this webinar\, funders learned how harm reduction approaches are being effectively implemented in community health centers and other settings\, with a particular focus on services supporting homeless individuals and women with behavioral health conditions. Speakers included Barbara DiPietro of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council\, Mishka Terplan of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, and Kimá Joy Taylor of Anka Consulting LLC. \nRelated Content\n\nAdvancing Health Equity with Harm Reduction Strategies Presentation – PDF document\, 3549 KB
