SUMMARY:Supporting Children and Families through Father-Friendly Initiatives
DESCRIPTION:Research has shown that positive father involvement leads to improved birth outcomes for mothers and infants\, as well as greater academic success\, increased self-esteem\, improved ability to manage stress\, and more positive social behavior in children across developmental stages. There are many programs focused on improving the health of children and families\, however\, many overlook the impact of involved fatherhood. Watch this webinar to learn about one funder’s journey to supporting father-friendly programming\, lessons learned in creating successful initiatives across diverse communities\, and the importance of—and sensitivities involved in—funding in this space. Featured Speaker: Leticia Sanchez of First 5 LA. \nClick here to watch the webinar

SUMMARY:Health\, Housing\, Equity\, Race and Power Funders Convening
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored with Neighborhood Funders Group\, The California Endowment\, Colorado Health Foundation\, Ford Foundation\, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\, Kresge Foundation\, Missouri Foundation for Health\, New York State Health Foundation\, Northwest Health Foundation\, Richmond Memorial Health Foundation\, and Shelterforce. \nHousing is one of the best-researched social determinants of health\, and housing interventions for low-income and communities of color have been found to improve health outcomes\, as well as prevent homelessness. Across the country\, community residents and institutions are collaborating\, organizing\, and passing policies to protect renters and preserve and expand affordable housing. Yet\, from rural to urban\, and from hot to cool markets\, low-income individuals and families continue to struggle. \nWhat role are health funders playing in strengthening the voice\, influence\, and power of low-income residents and communities of color at the local\, regional\, and state levels? How are health funders engaged with community members and advocates to create investment strategies designed to build capacity for coalition work\, advocacy\, organizing\, and community power\, positioning these communities to engage at a policy and systems change level for sustained impact? \nJoin us for this strategy session designed to continue conversations initiated at the Neighborhood Funders Group (NFG) session “Catalyzing a Movement for Health and Housing” at Grantmakers In Health’s 2019 annual conference in Seattle\, where nearly 90 funders attended a panel discussion on how philanthropy can invest in community housing solutions. \nMore Information and Registration
