SUMMARY:Supporting Sustainable Networks of Community Based Organizations to Improve Health
DESCRIPTION:The Nonprofit Finance Fund’s Advancing Resilience and Community Health (ARCH) initiative aims to improve how money and services are aligned across traditionally separate health care and social services systems to enhance community wellness. With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\, the ARCH initiative seeks to build the capacity of community-based organizations (CBOs) to sustainably deliver services by strengthening partnership networks among CBOs and developing fair financial agreements with health care institutions. Participants explored early learnings from the ARCH initiative’s efforts\, including emerging payment models\, challenges encountered\, and promising practices.  Featured speakers included Kevin Muir of EngageWell IPA and Lisa Thirer of the Nonprofit Finance Fund. \nPresentation: \n\nSupporting Sustainable Networks of Community Based Organizations to Improve Health\n\nWebinar Recording:

SUMMARY:Organizing Health Professionals for Action in the Era of Coronavirus
DESCRIPTION:This content was originally slated for the 2020 GIH Annual Conference on Health Philanthropy in Minneapolis\, Minnesota. \nThe emergence of COVID-19 has exposed the many ways health systems and societal structures impede equitable health for all. At times like these\, it is crucial for decisionmakers to hear from health professionals\, grassroots organizers\, and directly impacted communities who are working together to advance equity solutions. Such advocacy does not come naturally to health professionals\, many of whom are most comfortable operating within their areas of expertise. The participants joined a candid discussion with health funders and advocates about efforts to mobilize the health sector in support of social justice movements. Speakers included Caroline Brunton of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation\, Lili Farhang of Human Impact Partners\, and Sandra Witt of The California Endowment.

SUMMARY:COVID-19: Impact on Care for Persons with Serious Illness
DESCRIPTION:People living with serious illness\, the majority of whom are also older adults\, are at the highest-risk for contracting COVID-19. Already facing many daily challenges\, these vulnerable people and their families are finding that barriers to care are being exacerbated by the epidemic. This “new normal” will have far reaching consequences for this population\, their caregivers\, and the health care system\, with disproportionate impacts on communities of color and low-income communities. Participants learned more about how seriously ill persons and their caregivers are being affected\, the short- and long-term repercussions for health access and disparities\, the implications for end-of-life care and grieving\, and what providers and health systems can do. Speakers and participants also discussed what philanthropy can do to support individuals\, families\, providers\, and the health care system now and in the future. Speakers included Brynn Bowman of Center to Advance Palliative Care\, Betty Ferrell of City of Hope Medical Center\, and Cynthia Carter Perrilliat of Alameda County Care Alliance. \n \n
