SUMMARY:Impacts of Rising Uninsured Rates and COVID-19 on Latino Children and Families
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the vulnerability and exacerbated the health disparities of children and families\, including those of Latino descent. Funders have worked to improve the health status\, economic situation\, and rate of insurance for Latino families. What work remains to be done to address the barriers this group faces and achieve greater health equity? \nThis webinar offered an overview of the health coverage status of Latino children and families\, including recent research that underscores the impact of COVID-19 on this community\, as well as an overview of other threats they face\, such as public charge. Presenters also shared their reflections on opportunities to support and advocate for this vulnerable population. Speakers included Samantha Artiga of the Kaiser Family Foundation and Steven Lopez of UNIDOSUS. \nWebinar Recording: \n  \n \nPresentation Slides: \nGIH-Latino Children and Families-2-4 \nUnidosUS_GIH Presentation_2-4-2021_UnidosUS \nAdditional Resources: \nHispanic People are Facing Widening Gaps in Health Coverage \n \nhttps://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/latest-data-covid-19-vaccinations-cases-deaths-race-ethnicity/ \nImmigrant Access to COVID-19 Vaccines: Key Issues to Consider \n \nVaccine Hesitancy Among Hispanic Adults \n \n

SUMMARY:Addressing the Mental Health Epidemic: Mindfulness\, Healing\, and Resiliency Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Mental health is fundamental to our overall well-being—yet stress\, burnout\, depression\, and anxiety are on the rise and COVID-19 has only exacerbated existing issues and inequities for many children\, adolescents\, and families. Philanthropy can help meet this critical mental health moment\, both with immediate supports and long-term system change efforts\, and by addressing the disparities disproportionately experienced by communities of color. This timely conversation dives into the current mental health landscape; highlights cost-effective\, prevention-oriented programs; and shares insights on the future of mental health and roles for health funders. Featured speakers include Henry Emmons\, an integrative psychiatrist with Partners in Resilience\, and Andrea Cole\, Executive Director and CEO of the Ethel and James Flinn Foundation. \nResources: \nNatural Mental Health \nTRAILS to Wellness \nUniversity of Michigan Depression Center \nUniversity of Minnesota Center for Spirituality & Healing \nUniversity of California\, San Francisco Osher Center for Integrative Medicine \nStanford Center for Integrative Medicine \nCleveland Clinic Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine
