SUMMARY:Connections to Nature and Green Spaces: A Path to Health Equity
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored with Blue Sky Funders Forum  \nTrails\, parks\, and green spaces play an important role in public health\, with benefits ranging from increased physical activity to numerous positive behavioral health outcomes. While need and demand for them rose during the COVID-19 pandemic\, the ability to access public places for outdoor recreation and refuge remains a privilege for some rather than a resource for all. During this webinar\, we discussed the growing evidence base for the benefits of green spaces\, some of the current interventions and strategies being employed to more equitably expand access to communities of color and low-income communities\, and why green space access should be included in every funders’ health equity strategy. Speakers included Juan Martinez of Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions and Courtney Schultz of Health & Technology Partners\, LLC.  \nResources: \n\nNature Exposure and Health Lit Review\nMeasuring Nature Contact Lit Review\nAspen Institute Measuring Wellbeing Project\nChildren and Nature Network Research Hub\nBlue Sky Environmental Literacy and Health Outcomes Research\n\nPowerPoint Presentations: \n\nCourtney’s PowerPoint\nJuan’s PowerPoint\n\nRecording: \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Aligning Foundation Communications to Restore Trust in Public Health
DESCRIPTION:We are experiencing an unprecedented erosion of trust in public health expertise caused by a host of reasons\, including misinformation and disinformation. Communications staff in health philanthropy play a vital role in assisting their organizations – and\, most importantly\, the grantees and communities they serve – with addressing this new normal following the COVID-19 pandemic. \nPeople responsible for external communications work at their foundation or corporate giving program joined this virtual convening to discuss the problem and the impacts we are seeing in communities across the country. By exchanging ideas and sharing evidence-based communications practices\, we identified common challenges and possible solutions to rebuilding trust among key institutions and supporting the communities we serve. \nThis was a unique opportunity to connect with peers as this is the launch of a series of candid\, confidential\, and unscripted discussions designed to strengthen our alignment and explore the potential for collective action. \n

Leaders in the field discussed policy actions and explored opportunities for philanthropic engagement in the expansion of doula services. Speakers included Amy Chen of the National Health Law Program\, Jamaica Gilliam of Blaq Birth Circle\, Kiana Trabue of bi3\, Inc.\, and Atiya Weiss of The Burke Foundation.   \nPresentation: \nDoula Workforce \nResources: \nCalifornia Doula Pilots Lessons Learned Project – National Health Law Program \nSHARE Program | Community Doulas (berkeley.edu) \nAdditional Resources from NHeLP \nRecording:

SUMMARY:Millions of Children Still at Risk of Losing Health Insurance Coverage
DESCRIPTION:The unwinding of the public health emergency looms\, threatening to disrupt Medicaid coverage and health care access for an estimated 16 million people as early as August 2022. Although the Biden Administration recently announced its proposal for fixing the so-called “family glitch\,” which would improve insurance coverage and affordability for many\, there remains an urgent need for philanthropic organizations to help prepare for what’s ahead. This on-demand webinar featured the latest updates on changes that are coming to Medicaid and CHIP\, and on ways to address the coverage needs of children and families in the months to come. Presenters included Joan Alker\, Executive Director of the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University; and Jessie Mandle\, Deputy Director and Senior Health Policy Analyst at Voices for Utah Children.    \nAdditional Resources: \nMillions of Children Still at Risk of Losing Health Insurance Coverage \nVoices for Utah Children \nGeorgetown Center for Children and Families \nRecording: \n \n
