SUMMARY:Beyond H.R. 1: Protecting and Rebuilding Our Care Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Care for All with Respect and Equity (CARE Fund)\, Economic Opportunity Funders\, Heising-Simons Foundation\, Schusterman Family Philanthropies\, Tax Equity Funders Network\, and Women’s Funding Network. Co-sponsored with Grantmakers In Health\,  Asset Funders Network\, Better Taxes for a Better America\, Children\, Youth & Family Funders Roundtable\, and Early Childhood Funders Collaborative. \n  \nIn July 2025\, H.R. 1 – also known as the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ (OBBB)- was signed into law. The law’s tax cuts for wealthy individuals and corporations were financed by unprecedented cuts to programs that provide life-saving care and support to millions of Americans. Many of the law’s most harmful provisions will take effect in January 2026 and beyond. Cuts to federal programs such as SNAP\, Medicaid and Medicare \, and added administrative expenses\, will put huge pressure on state budgets. In the coming months\, state policymakers will be making crucial decisions about raising revenue or making significant cuts to programs across the board providing critical supports for women\, children\, immigrants\, older adults\, and people with disabilities. \nWe heard from national and state organizations about the encouraging lessons learned from the care movement’s cross-sector organizing against these devastating cuts\, the multi-year timeline of the law’s implementation\, strategies at state and national levels to mitigate harm\, and opportunities to use this moment to build support for a broad and inclusive care agenda. \nSpeakers Included: \n\nAmber Christ\, Managing Director- Health Advocacy\, Justice in Aging\nDessa Cosma\, Executive Director\, Detroit Disability Power\nSharon Parrott\, President\, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities\nJaimie Worker\, Senior Director of Policy & Research\, Caring Across Generations

SUMMARY:Trump Accounts (530A Accounts) & Early Asset Building: Funder-Only Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Asset Funders Network and presented in partnership with Grantmakers In Health\,  Economic Opportunity Funders\, Tax Equity Funders Network\, and Early Childhood Funders Collaborative.  \nAs asset funders\, we know that starting early – in childhood – is the best way to create wealth and savings. That’s why we continue to pay close attention to proposals—and confusion— about child-focused savings and asset creation tools. While often discussed interchangeably\, today’s child-focused accounts differ significantly in their goals\, funding\, eligibility criteria\, tax-exempt status\, usage and more. \n530A accounts\, formerly known as Trump Accounts or MAGA accounts\, have added to both the momentum behind children’s savings vehicles and growing confusion. Whether your funding priorities focus on education\, health\, economic security\, economic justice or asset-building\, understanding the similarities\, differences and nuances is essential in this changing landscape. \nThis funder briefing focused on early childhood investment vehicles with a clear focus on how 530A accounts are adding to or changing the field. We provided an expert briefing and Q & A period designed to answer the following:\n\n\nWhat distinguishes 530A accounts from existing early childhood savings tools—and where are the areas of overlap? \n\n\nWhat unanswered questions still remain about these accounts? \n\n\nHow can funders best prepare for the rollout of 530A accounts to advance equity and wealth building? \n\n\nHow do 530A accounts fit into funders’ broader goals for early childhood savings and investment\, including strategies such as Baby Bonds\, 529s\, and a strengthened social security net still? \n\n\nHow can we work together to best align these accounts and other tools to realize our shared goal of equitable wealth building? \n\n\nSpeakers Included: \n\nJoseph A. Antolin\, President & CEO\, Asset Funders Network\nRay Boshara\, Senior Policy Advisor\, Center for Social Development\, Washington University in St. Louis\, Senior Fellow\, Financial Security Program\, Aspen Institute\nBrittany Urick\, Head of the United States\, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation\n\nResources:  \n\nWebinar Slides Jan 30\nFrom Cradle to Capital: A Case for Philanthropy to Invest in Baby Bonds\, AFN Webinar\n“Every child deserves a Trump Account: Here’s how to make it happen\,” The Hill\n“Treasury\, IRS issues guidance on Trump Accounts”
