SUMMARY:Isn't This an 'Immigrant’ Issue? Why All Philanthropic Sectors Should Care About the New Public Charge Rule
DESCRIPTION:This webinar was hosted by Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees and co-sponsored by Grantmakers In Health.  \nThe federal government’s new public charge rule is the latest and most powerful tactic to strip millions of immigrant families of access to basic needs like health care\, food\, and housing. Children will be among those most impacted\, as one in four children in the U.S. have at least one immigrant parent. While the vast majority of these children are eligible for benefits like all other U.S. citizens\, their families are afraid to access benefits for them out of fear that aggressive immigration policies will tear their families apart. Confronted by these harsh realities\, too many families are at risk of falling behind. The chilling effects of this new rule will have lasting negative impacts on community health\, well-being\, and even life expectancies\, creating a generation of young Americans hindered from achieving long-term safety and stability simply due to their parents’ immigration status. \n\nParticipants: \n\nLearned why this rule devastates immigrants and non-immigrants.\nHeard real stories from frontline organizations covering health care\, education\, disabilities\, food and nutrition\, housing\, immigrant rights\, and other sectors on the rule’s wide-ranging impact.\nExplored how philanthropies can help mitigate the harm.\n\n

SUMMARY:Supporting Community-Based Organizations in Social Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Community-based organizations (CBOs) are increasingly recognized as essential partners in addressing the social drivers of health\, including food access\, housing stability\, maternal health\, and behavioral health. When Medicaid and Medicare provide coverage for social health services\, CBOs may have new opportunities to participate in health care delivery systems. However\, in order to be successful\, these organizations may need additional support to navigate challenges related to credentialing\, billing\, compliance\, and administrative capacity. This webinar explored sustainable financing strategies for social health services\, common challenges facing CBOs\, and the ways in which the current policy environment will impact such Medicaid waivers. Speakers discussed how philanthropy can help seed and strengthen the needed infrastructure through capacity building\, technical assistance\, and strategic investments.  \nGIH webinar July 28 slides \n \n  \n
