Caring for Colorado Foundation

A Statewide Philanthropy Lead manages a focus area within Caring for Colorado’s statewide philanthropy program, which includes Healthy Beginnings, Healthy Youth and Strong and Resilient Families, to support the foundation’s purpose of creating equity in health, well-being and opportunity for Colorado’s children and families.
The work of a Statewide Philanthropy Lead includes overseeing focus area grantmaking (responsive, cultivated, directed), engaging an advisory group, providing subject matter expertise related to the focus area, engaging with community partners and experts in the field, influencing systems and policies to achieve equity, being responsive to community priorities and generating approaches that enhance CFC’s goals related to the focus area (e.g., cohorts, technical assistance, organizational capacity, etc.). The Philanthropy Lead is the primary liaison with grant seekers, grantees, community organizations and community leaders, and as such, the position is engaged and highly visible in the community. The Statewide Philanthropy Lead is expected to develop and maintain a variety of relationships in the community and with partner organizations, and a knowledge base of current trends in promoting and improving health and well-being for children and families in the Colorado community at-large.
Statewide Philanthropy Leads work with autonomy and in partnership with other Leads and the Vice President of Philanthropy to ensure clear and strategic philanthropic priorities for Caring for Colorado.
Caring for Colorado currently has openings for three Statewide Philanthropy Leads as we are forming a new team to guide the statewide program. Across the team, we seek to hire individuals with skills and knowledge in behavioral health and well-being, youth engagement, early childhood, community health, the nonprofit sector and family development and a deep commitment to equity and inclusion and the foundation’s guiding principles.

- Statewide Philanthropy Leads work out of the Denver office and perform work in communities across the state.
- Up to two days per week of remote work may be considered.
- Out-of-Denver travel is expected routinely, with overnight stays and long-distance driving.
- Employee will need to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and be able to drive a car – reasonable accommodation will be made for people who are unable to drive.
- To be considered for employment, candidate must pass a background check and show proof of immunization for COVID-19. Immunization exemptions may be considered on an individual basis.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary is $95,000 for a full-time equivalent position. Salary will be based on experience.

Lead a Statewide Focus Area
- Cultivate and develop funding strategies in partnership with community leaders, subject matter experts, nonprofit partners, and the foundation’s senior leadership team.
- Research, monitor and bring forward opportunities and trends in the foundation’s focus areas, including gathering and synthesizing information and data on various health-related topics and community insights.
- With support, engage an advisory group to guide and enrich the focus area’s work and ensure that the perspective of people impacted by inequitable systems are represented in approaches.
- Develop and manage responsive grantmaking timelines, budget, and external and internal communication about the statewide philanthropy program and a specific focus area. This includes:
- Reviewing grant proposals, conducting due diligence, assessing alignment with the foundation’s priorities, and presenting funding recommendations to team members and the Board of Directors.
- Monitoring grants through regular engagement with grantee partners and grantee reporting.
- Coordinating grantmaking efforts with the grants management team to ensure smooth grantmaking operations.
- Monitor the policy and advocacy environment, and systems influencing outcomes aligned with the focus area’s goals, engage in policy advocacy funding, workgroups, and collaborative efforts.
- With support, develop capacity building efforts, cohorts and focused grantmaking approaches.
- Support learning and assessment efforts to understand the focus area’s impact, promote team learning, respond to feedback, and identify opportunities for strategy refinement.
- Engage in communities across Colorado to listen, learn, connect, and cultivate partnerships.
- Participate in meetings, workgroups, coalitions and engage with funding partners to leverage foundation resources in Colorado for addressing complex issues.
- Support the Vice President of Philanthropy and Chief Strategy Officer in working across programs at Caring for Colorado to implement evolving philanthropic practices, develop and review strategy, conduct quality improvement, solve problems, align communication, and realize organizational goals.

- Convening and facilitation skills with the ability to create inclusive listening, learning or conversation groups with a wide variety of audiences.
- Direct experience serving and/or advocating for children, youth, and families, with a commitment to communities of color, LGBTQ+ people and people living on low incomes who are impacted by systemic inequities.
- Willingness to take on new challenges and learn new skills as needed.
- Willingness to grow in personal and professional skills related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and solicit help when needed.
- Optimistic, energetic, dependable, and flexible.
- A minimum of six years of experience in the health, human services, behavioral health, education, or non-profit sector required.
- Bi-lingual Spanish speaker preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (LCSW, MA, MPH, or MPA)
