Leads the writing of proposals for a range of US government agencies (for example, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Justice, and Labor; and National Science Foundation), in addition to private sector and foundation funders, to support public health, education, and workforce development projects serving communities in the United States. Produces original writing, along with integrating and rewriting material produced by others, to create compelling, engaging, easy-to-read, and uniform language in response to requests for proposals/applications, working closely with program design leads, proposal managers and technical experts. May also develop, write and edit other technical documents, including policies, forms, fact sheets, web copy, and training materials.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborates on upstream capture processes to lay the groundwork for strategic, contextualized proposal documents.
  • Reviews all funding opportunity announcements to understand and help guide the teams in their responses.
  • Actively participates in ongoing proposal teams, collecting technical input from technical experts to develop proposal drafts.
  • Works in close coordination with proposal budget leads to be sure the budget and technical proposal reflect a unified approach.
  • Reviews materials from previous projects and recommends how they can support current proposal development.
  • Writes and develops original proposal content on assignment from proposal design leads, researching the topic to aid strategy and technical development as necessary.
  • Develops proposals with uniform style and voice, meeting best practices for proposal writing.
  • Analyzes text of proposals against narrative requirements to determine what additional resources are necessary to deliver an excellent proposal.
  • Writes multiple drafts, incorporating comments from reviewers in liaison with proposal design leads.
  • Collaborates with proposal managers on compliance, format, and timeline issues.
  • Upon submission of final proposal drafts, catalogs technical sections for the record and for future use.
  • Conducts trainings on document control related topics.
  • Assists staff in the writing, proofreading, and editing of publications.
  • Mentors new staff on writing skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION**

  • Master’s degree in communications, public health, education, or related field.

EXPERIENCE**

  • 8+ years of developing, writing, and editing materials for proposals and technical publications.
  • Experience writing proposals for projects that serve communities in the United States, especially proposals for federal agencies.
  • Knowledge of issues related to public health, education, or workforce development is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Prior work in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.
