The Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) is seeking a dynamic and visionary CEO who is passionate about increasing access to primary care for uninsured and medically underserved Virginians. This position offers the right leader the opportunity to address one of the most critical issues in health care today.
You will follow a respected founding Executive Director who is retiring and join a strong, results-oriented Foundation. You will have the opportunity to lead and grow innovative programs that directly improve the health and well-being of underserved communities, from expanding the behavioral health workforce to increasing primary care and oral health access. You will influence policy by working with a talented staff and an engaged Board and partners and stakeholders across the Commonwealth to make a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals.
The Organization
VHCF is a public/private partnership initiated by the Virginia General Assembly’s Joint Commission on Healthcare in 1992. The Foundation aligns with state health priorities whenever possible, collaborates with key partners and stakeholders across Virginia, and leverages taxpayer dollars. We receive funding through state legislative processes, private foundations, corporations, individual donors, and sponsored events. We place heavy emphasis on the non-partisan nature of our work.
VHCF has played an important role in developing a health and dental safety net across Virginia through funding assistance and by developing programs that support additional health needs, such as access to prescriptions, increasing the number of individuals covered by Medicaid, and increasing the health and behavioral health workforce. Please see VHCF’s website for additional information about our programs and their impact.

- Resource Development: Lead and expand our fundraising efforts, including through legislative processes, private foundations, corporate partnerships, individual donor engagement, and an annual sponsored event.
- Public Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Foundation, informing policymakers, key stakeholders and the public of the challenges faced by uninsured and medically underserved populations and opportunities to address them.
- Program Oversight and Planning: Manage and evaluate current programs, and research and develop data to identify new areas of need where VHCF can have a positive impact.
- Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders of the healthcare industry, providers, government agencies, legislators, funders, and community organizations. Navigate the complexity of moving VHCF’s initiatives forward.
- Team Leadership and Engagement: Nurture a collaborative team approach and support internal learning and advancement with VHCF staff.
- Financial Management: Ensure the financial health of the organization through sound budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.

- A knowledge of Virginia’s executive branch and legislative systems, and an understanding of the process of successfully obtaining state funds by working with the General Assembly’s money committees.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and inspire a diverse group of people and organizations to support VHCF’s mission.
