The Opportunity
The Confluence Health Foundation seeks an experienced, innovative, strategic and collaborative fundraising leader to serve as the next Vice President Philanthropy, Executive Trustee. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer & Confluence Health Foundation Trustees, the VP Philanthropy provides direction and leadership in all aspects of management for a volunteer organization whose purpose is to raise money and promote good-will on behalf of Confluence Health.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Confluence Health and the Confluence Health Foundation Trustees, the Vice President Philanthropy will lead the philanthropic effort for Confluence Health, which includes two hospital campuses and a medical clinics group. The VP Philanthropy has direct accountability for working with Boards, managing a high-level donor portfolio and generating financial resources in support of key initiatives. The successful candidate will actively engage senior leadership, board members, clinicians and other key stakeholders in the philanthropic process. They must have a master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business, or related field with ten years relevant leadership experience, with a minimum of three years senior level management experience.
Established in 1978, the Confluence Health Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Confluence Health, an independent regional healthcare system serving more than 250,000 patients in Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan counties. As the largest medical provider between Seattle and Spokane, Confluence Health is the primary source of healthcare for residents of North Central Washington, providing the region with superior healthcare close to home.

Essential Job Functions (included but not limited to)
- Develop Foundation strategic goals and objectives in concert with the hospital.
- Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the hospital and its Board of Directors.
- Plan, organize and direct the establishment of endowments, major gifts and special funds.
- Cultivate broad-based community support that results in the receipt of sustained endowments, trusts and major contributions.
- Design and implement fundraising campaigns using techniques of direct mail solicitation, personal solicitation, benefit events, appeals to philanthropic organizations and promote planned giving through estate planning, endowments and trusts.
- Evaluate trends in philanthropy, tax and estate-planning regulations to develop programs responsive to the fundraising needs of the hospital.
- Evaluate departmental performance in relation to established goals and implement changes to improve services for the benefit of Confluence Health Hospitals.
- Researches and submits proposals for grants and special funding.
- Organize and attend fundraising events for the hospital, assisting sponsoring agencies with campaigns and functions.
- Develop rapport with existing and potential donors to discuss estate-planning options with financial advisors, accountants and attorneys.
- Suggest special hospital programs and medical or research needs that could be addressed through gifts. Provide reports and information to key prospects and donors through newsletters, mailings and hospital updates.
- Ensure accurate receipt acknowledgements, and allocation of gifts according to the requirement of the IRS and the donor. Maintain pledge reminders and billing systems as appropriate.
- Demonstrate competency in communicating with potential and existing donors as well as the board of trustees of the foundation and the hospital and its principal administrative officer.
- Represent the hospital as a knowledgeable and professional management person who is dedicated to the continuation and growth Confluence Health.
- Maintain accurate reporting to all Federal and State regulatory oversight agencies annually.
- Responsible for independent outside Tax preparation and Audit annually.
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
- Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field with ten years relevant leadership experience.
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills with a participative management style that builds on collaboration and cooperation within the fundraising team.
- Individual should be flexible and adaptable to a dynamic environment.
- Must have a proven track record for developing and providing a creative fundraising program.
- Must be knowledgeable and trained in Federal and State regulations related to fundraising and all legal aspects related to planned giving from wills to pooled income funds.
- Must maintain primary residence in the Confluence Health service area.
- Minimum three years senior level management experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive certification (CFRE).
Salary Range
$200,000 – $280,000 annually
