Authentically Integrating and Centering Lived Experience in Children and Families Grantmaking

April 30, 2020 | 3:00 - 4:00 pm Eastern

Community engagement—the involvement of community members as stakeholders in outreach, consultation, collaboration, program design, and shared decisionmaking— is an essential part of operationalizing equity in grantmaking. A new brief from Nemours Children’s Health System, entitled Lived Experience: The Practice of Engagement in Policy, highlights the importance of effectively incorporating the lived experience, or first-hand knowledge and expertise, of community members as a key component of community engagement principles and ultimately, systems change. On this webinar, participants learned about ways health funders and community members are leveraging lived experience best practices for equitable outcomes in children and families grantmaking, including in COVID-19 response planning. Featured speakers included Kara Blankner of the Jane Bancroft Robinson Foundation; Laura Hogan, Program and Policy Consultant; and Yazzmine Holley-Anderson and Yanique Redwood of the Consumer Health Foundation.
