Caring About Care Workers: Essential to the Future of Health

August 10 4pm-5pm ET

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed both the power and the vulnerability of care workers as essential workers in our society. Through their largely invisible work, these workers—who are often women of color and immigrants—support the health and quality of life of children, older adults, and people with disabilities, while also allowing the families of those receiving care to remain in the workforce. Yet, care workers’ low wages, limited benefits, and poor job quality put their health at risk and may limit their ability to play their crucial role in sustaining families, communities, and the economy.

Join us for an on-demand conversation featuring community-based leaders and funders about why investing in care workers is vital to the future of health and our economy. This panel also explores policy opportunities that can drive change in the nation's pandemic recovery and innovative local practices that can lead to greater health, racial, and gender equity. Speakers include Nancy Maldonado of Chicano Federation of San Diego, Teresita Sattar of Courage Co-op, Jennette Shay of Price Philanthropies Foundation, Aquilina Soriano of Pilipino Workers Center, and Rachel Wick of Blue Shield of California Foundation.
