COVID-19: How Funders Can Support Bereavement and Grief

July 14, 2020, 2:00 -3:00 pm Eastern

Cosponsored with Center for Disaster Philanthropy, Council on Foundations, National Center for Family Philanthropy, Grantmakers in Aging, the Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities, National VOAD, InterAction and United Philanthropy Forum.

As the pandemic continues, serious mental health needs are emerging, including mental illness, depression, anxiety, and suicide risk. This webinar raised awareness of the intersection of mental health and COVID-19. The discussion included what professionals are seeing as individuals, families, and communities endure the stresses of uncertainty, illness, death, and the economic impacts of the pandemic; the role of cultural sensitivity in addressing the traumas of disaster; how funders are responding to the enormity of the losses; and opportunities for innovative and collaborative grantmaking. Speakers included Huong Diep, Consulting Psychologist with the Headington Institute; Lisa Furst, Vice President for Policy, Advocacy and Education at Vibrant; and Heather Nesle, President of the New York Life Foundation. Regine Webster from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy moderated the discussion.
