Rural Investment Models for Substance Use Disorder Recovery Ecosystems

Rural communities have been disproportionately impacted by the opioid overdose crisis for more than a decade, compounding long-term trends in rural health disparities and economic distress. Many rural areas lack comprehensive prevention and treatment services for people with substance use disorders, as well as the full complement of wraparound supports for people in recovery.
During this webinar , leaders from the field introduce a data-driven model for understanding local recovery ecosystems, followed by presentations from public and private funders that illustrate investment approaches for the recovery community in rural New York. Presenters included Nancy L. Heaton of the Foundation for Community Health, Tory Irgang of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Michael Meit of the East Tennessee State University Center for Rural Health Research, and Lauren Wood of the Appalachian Regional Commission.
