SUMMARY:Innovative Crossroads: The Intersection of Creativity\, Health\, and Aging
DESCRIPTION:Our country is on the verge of a significant demographic shift that will see a large increase in the number of older Americans. The potential implications for the health care system\, as well as the elderly and their families\, will be enormous\, requiring that we consider innovative approaches to treating\, managing\, and preventing disease. A promising and innovative area that has already shown considerable potential and some success is strengthening the links between creativity\, health\, and aging. Research continues to find many positive health benefits for those who actively participate in creative arts programs\, both from a prevention perspective and for those afflicted with disorders and diseases that occur more frequently as we age. \nInnovative Crossroads: The Intersection of Creativity\, Health\, & Aging wase held on Wednesday\, May 1\, 2013 in Washington\, DC. A partnership of GIH with the National Center for Creative Aging\, Grantmakers In Aging\, Grantmakers in the Arts\, and the Global Alliance for Arts & Health\, this one-day meeting explored how creative expression can improve health outcomes for older Americans; the various types of promising programs; and the challenges and opportunities where funders can make a difference. The agenda included a number of knowledgeable experts and ample opportunity for funders to engage in active dialogue.
