SUMMARY:Justice for All: Is Criminal Justice Reform Leaving Immigrants Behind?
DESCRIPTION:Cosponsored with Colorado Association of Funders\, Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers\, Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees\, Grantmakers of Oregon & Southwest Washington\, Hispanics in Philanthropy\, International Human Rights Funders Group\, Northern California Grantmakers\, and Southern California Grantmakers \nIn many states across the United States\, there has been significant progress in criminal justice reform\, including on sentencing\, parole\, and smart-on-crime policies to reduce incarceration rates. New federal policies and proposed legislation have increasingly moved to criminalize immigrant communities\, heighten penalties on immigrants who have had contact with the criminal justice system\, and bar access to alternatives to incarceration for immigrants. On this webinar\, funders learned more about the intersections between criminal justice and immigration systems\, how the criminal justice reform and immigrant rights communities are responding\, and what funders are doing. Speakers included Jojo Annobil of Immigrant Justice Corps\, Alan Jenkins of Opportunity Agenda\, Kevin Ring of Families Against Mandatory Minimums\, and Ana Yáñez-Correa of Public Welfare Foundation.
