In July 2026, the United States reached a grim milestone when the number of confirmed cases of measles exceeded the total for all of 2025. On August 10, 2026, the White House issued an executive order directing changes to the federal childhood vaccine schedule and categories, and calls for availability of separate measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines. The science has not changed, but the new framework could significantly slow down the delivery of protective immunizations from these serious diseases.

Community Focused Strategies to Improve Health in West Baltimore

For far too long, residents of west Baltimore have faced continuous uphill battles to access basic amenities, services, jobs, and quality of life. Racism, redlining, eminent domain, disinvestment, school closures, poverty, violent crime, chronic health conditions, failed affordable housing, and the outmigration of businesses and residents have left behind vacant housing and dilapidated commercial corridors. These challenges result in a 17-year difference in life expectancy between residents of west Baltimore neighborhoods compared to other parts of the city.

Registration Is Open for the 2026 GIH Health Policy Exchange
|
|
The 2026 GIH Health Policy Exchange will be held November 9–11 at The Westin Arlington in Arlington, Virginia. This year’s theme is We the People: Mobilizing for Better Health. Regardless of the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections, the landscape of health policy in the United States will be shaped by recent political realities. The Health Policy Exchange will provide space to assess the post-election environment, identify where investment and action are most urgently needed, and explore ways health funders can mobilize at the federal, state, and local levels.

Grantmakers In Health Joins Amicus Brief Challenging Medicaid Work Requirement Rule
|
|
Grantmakers In Health has joined an amicus curiae brief filed September 10 in Massachusetts v. Oz, supporting a challenge to a federal rule that the brief argues would strip Medicaid coverage from millions of people with serious health conditions. GIH joined the American Public Health Association, the Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health and the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, Liberty Health Alliance, and 161 public health and health policy deans, chairs, and scholars in signing the brief.

Grantmakers In Health Seeks Nominations for 2027 Leadership and Advocacy Awards
|
|
Grantmakers In Health is accepting nominations for the 2027 Andy Hyman Award for Advocacy and Terrance Keenan Leadership Award in Health Philanthropy. The Terrance Keenan Leadership Award honors an innovative grantmaker who has deployed philanthropic resources to effectively address today’s most pressing health issues. The Andy Hyman Award for Advocacy recognizes a nonprofit or public sector champion who embodies a commitment to principled action and leadership to advance social change. Nominations may be submitted online by December 11, 2026.
