State Policies to Improve Maternal and Infant Health
Tuesday, March 14, 2023—3:00 -4:00 pm ET
Policy decisions made and implemented at the state level have a significant influence on the health of mothers and babies. A broad variety of policies, such as those related to Medicaid post-partum coverage, coverage and payment for doula services, funding for substance use treatment, paid sick and family leave, and worksite accommodations for pregnancy and breastmilk pumping, impact perinatal outcomes. During this session, participants learned more about the state policy landscape related to maternal and infant health and explore how health funders can advance health-promoting policies. Presenters included Karen VanLandeghem of the National Academy for State Health Policy, Dina Bakst of A Better Balance, and Andrea Palmer of the Pritzker Children’s Initiative.
