It has been over a year since President Obama called for several federal agencies to launch a National Dialogue on Mental Health. Since then community members have come together for over 100 dialogues in 36 states to talk about mental health and create community action plans. Additional events are being organized and many communities are now moving from dialogue to action.

In June 2013, GIH hosted a webinar on the first stages of the National Dialogue on Mental Health. This follow-up webinar provided an update on the initiative’s activities to date as well as next steps. The discussion focused on outcomes from the dialogues and highlighted examples of community action plans. Speakers included Pamela Hyde of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Carolyn Lukensmeyer of the National Institute for Civil Discourse at the University of Arizona.
