Improving Health Outcomes for Seniors in Rural Communities

Cosponsored with Grantmakers In Aging and the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Low average incomes, geographic isolation, and a severe shortage of qualified health care providers create challenges in delivering quality health care in rural America. What is the role of philanthropy in improving the health of older persons in rural America, and how can local and regional funders participate? In this webinar, participants learned about an innovative telemedicine program supporting optimal healing and wellness for older adults in seven states that focuses on providing proactive medical care to avoid unnecessary transfers, hospitalizations, and read missions. Participants discussed how this program has evolved and the opportunities for philanthropy to be part of the health care solution in rural America. Speakers included: John Feather of Grantmakers In Aging, Josh Hofmeyer of Avera eCARE, and Heidi A. Schultz of the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
