Advancing a Public Health Agenda for Native Communities

September 22, 2015 2:00 pm Eastern Time

Cosponsored by Native Americans in Philanthropy

Funders interested in addressing the diverse health needs of American Indian and Alaska Native communities often have questions about the current structure of Tribal and Urban Indian public health systems, and about the current priorities of tribally-led and tribally-driven health improvement efforts. With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Red Star Innovations recently led a process to explore these issues and to examine potential roles for a tribal public health institute. This webinar discussed the findings of their report, Seven Directions: A Blueprint for Advancing the Health and Wellness of Our Native Communities, and shared their insights and ideas about how philanthropy can help achieve health equity for Tribal and Urban Indian communities. Speakers included: Aleena Hernandez of Red Star Innovations, Jasmine Hall Ratliff of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Robert Sturm of Native Americans in Philanthropy.
