Incorporating Harm Reduction Strategies in Behavioral Health Grantmaking

October 25, 2017 1:00 pm Eastern Time

Heightened attention to the opioid epidemic has led more health funders to consider integrating a broader range of strategies in behavioral health efforts. Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies—including overdose prevention, syringe exchange, and safer consumption spaces—aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use, as well as addressing conditions of trauma, stigma, and social justice. Funders on this webinar discussed best practices, gaps, and emerging issues in applying harm reduction policies to substance use grantmaking. Speakers included Daniel Raymond of the Harm Reduction Coalition and Jamie Wood of Open Society Foundations.
