Irfan Hasan

Irfan Hasan serves as the Interim Chief Program Officer at The New York Community Trust, the community foundation for New York City, Westchester, and Long Island. With more than 25 years of experience as a grantmaker, Irfan leads The Trust’s competitive grantmaking team and oversees grants designated through donor legacies to nonprofits nationwide. His earlier roles at The Trust included managing its health, behavioral health, biomedical research, human services, and social work grantmaking. Irfan co-chaired the human services grantmaking committee of The Trust’s $110 million multi-funder NYC COVID-19 Response and Impact Fund to respond to the pandemic; developed emergency grants in response to Hurricane Sandy and the economic downturn of 2008/2009; and led The Trust’s the September 11th Fund’s $75 million health and mental health program. Prior to The Trust, he served as Vice President for Client Services at Greater Boston Rehabilitation Services (now Viability), where he oversaw programs to help people with disabilities, chronic diseases, and other barriers to employment return to work. Irfan earned a master’s in public administration from New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.

In addition to Grantmakers in Health, Irfan serves as Board Chair of Philanthropy New York, is a member of the Substance Use Funders Collaborative’s governance committee, an elected fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, and a member of Global Leadership Exchange (North American Region). Previous volunteer leaderships roles included serving as a Mayoral appointee to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Community Service Board; a member (and board chair) of the Disability Funders Network; co-chair of the American Public Health Association’s Public Health Funder Network; a board member of BoardStrong; and co-chair of the United States Student Selection Committee for the United World Colleges.
