Crisis Response Toolkit—Being Prepared: Emerging Threats to Health Philanthropy

Recently, a regional health foundation was highlighted on social media by an account that described itself as being “inspired by DOGE.” The specific areas this account raised for critique were taken from publicly available information, including the organization’s 990 Form and its website.

Given the availability of similar information for practically every Grantmakers In Health (GIH) Funding Partner, we recommend that funders ready a response plan in the event that they are targeted in the coming days and weeks.

GIH, working in partnership with FGS Global, a global communications and public affairs consultancy, has assembled a new crisis response toolkit to help funders prepare for social media threats, including information on basic media monitoring, advice on when to draft a holding statement, guidelines for media engagement, the importance of creating media backgrounders and fact sheets to share with the press, and more.
