Advancing State Data Collection on Opioid Treatment

July 13, 2022, 1:00 – 2:00 pm Eastern

The COVID pandemic has made the nation’s long-standing opioid epidemic even worse, causing increasing numbers of people to seek out opioid treatment programs. At the state level, effective tracking of opioid treatment can help government officials, health care providers, advocates, and funders know what’s working, what needs to be improved, and how to address health disparities. Unfortunately, few states report data beyond overdose death rates and emergency department visits, which hampers opportunities for innovation and improvement. This webinar learned about a national initiative launched by the Pew Charitable Trusts that offers states a core set of metrics to track opioid treatment access and use. Presenters described how better data collection can target critically needed progress and discuss the role philanthropy can play in these efforts. Speakers included Jan Brown of SpiritWorks Foundation Center for the Soul, Frances McGaffey of Pew Charitable Trusts, and Monica Trevino of Michigan Public Health Institute.
