Caring for Our Health Care Workforce: Challenges and Opportunities for Philanthropy

The last two years have taxed our country’s health care workforce, elevating pre-pandemic issues to a crisis level. Clinics struggle to hire, develop, and retain staff, and workers face burnout, low pay, and the mental health repercussions that come from being on the frontlines. Federal funding is providing some immediate relief, but additional support is necessary, along with a longer-term strategy to support the field and diversify the workforce. This webinar helped participants to better understand the landscape of health care workforce needs, discuss the strategies that attendees are currently engaged in, and highlight the ways philanthropy can build on existing state and federal efforts to ensure a comprehensive response. Speakers included Jasmine Hill of the Public Policy and Sociology Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Marko Mijic, Undersecretary of the California Health and Human Service Agency.
