Rural Health Care Workforce: Urgent Challenges and Promising Opportunities

December 16th, 2021

The health care workforce shortage in rural areas has reached a crisis level. Exacerbated by the pandemic, rural communities are reporting extreme shortages of nurses, behavioral health workers, and other health care providers, which greatly impacts residents’ ability to access quality health care. This webinar started with an update on rural health care workforce challenges and opportunities which led to an in-depth discussion about philanthropy’s engagement in filling gaps and supporting communities. Speakers included Holly Andrilla of the WWAMI Rural Health Research Center, Kim Firth of the Endowment for Health, and Marilyn Werber Serafini of the Bipartisan Policy Center.
