Save the Census: A Final Push for a Fair and Accurate Count

October 9, 2020 2:00 pm Eastern Time

Delays and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have had a significant impact on 2020 Census operations. Deadlines for census completion, apportionment of congressional seats, and delivery of redistricting data are uncertain pending legislative and judicial intervention. Without additional time for the Census Bureau to complete the count and conduct robust data quality reviews, communities of color, American Indians, low income populations, rural communities, and homeless people are likely to be undercounted and underrepresented for the next decade. This webinar featured a timely status update on census response, advocacy, and litigation efforts to ensure a fair and accurate census, and to discuss funding strategies to evaluate and address the quality of the data. Speakers included Karen Narasaki of the Bauman Foundation and Tara Westman of The California Endowment.
