Low-wage and immigrant women working in the beauty salon and domestic work sectors face unique health challenges, such as limited access to occupational health and safety information, exposure to toxins and other health hazards, and limited access to health care and occupational medicine. At this White House briefing, funders spent the day with federal officials, health policy experts, and gender equity advocates. Participants explored potential areas for public-private collaboration and emerged with new ideas, concrete action steps, and the contacts needed to help implement them.

This meeting was cosponsored by the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Asian American/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy, Groundswell Fund, Health and Environmental Funders Network, Ms. Foundation for Women, Rachel’s Network, Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment, and Women Donors Network.
