The Cameron Foundation, a philanthropic organization, is seeking a Program Officer to review, evaluate, and make funding recommendations for grant requests as well as lead other special projects as needed. This role involves strategy development, partnership cultivation and capacity building, with a focus on assessing grants targeted to address the social drivers of health (health/healthcare, education, human services, housing, workforce development and economic stability). The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of how social, economic and environmental factors influence community health.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Exempt status)
Reports to: Vice President for Programs
Location: Hybrid
Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies supporting the Foundation’s mission by leading a portfolio of grants addressing the social drivers of health and other program areas as assigned.
  • Conduct initial screenings of grant proposals, providing input on organization eligibility and programming alignment with the Foundation’s strategic priorities.
  • Review and analyze grant proposals, including organization and project budgets and other materials submitted with the grant requests, for clarity, feasibility and potential impact of the initiative.
  • Make funding recommendations for grant requests.
  • Prepare written evaluations of proposed grants and make oral presentations of the proposals to the Foundation’s management team and Board leadership.
  • Review grant agreements and monitor progress on grant contingencies as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to ensure alignment and integration across grant portfolios.
  • Build and maintain relationships with foundation partners, key stakeholders and funders.

Additional Duties:

  • Represent the Foundation to external constituents, including grantees, funders, policy makers, community partners and others on program-related issues.
  • Participate in local, regional and national convenings, associations and conversations to promote the Foundation’s mission and stay knowledgeable of best practices.
  • Stay apprised of the changing community landscape and evolving program innovation opportunities locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Conduct research and data collection for special projects as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Understanding of the social drivers of health and the role they play in community outcomes.
  • Analytical skills required to assess organizational capacity and operational efficiency while assessing grant applications.
  • Ability to analyze complex community conditions to identify grant opportunities, emerging issues and needs.
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to drive multiple high-profile projects forward, effectively leveraging resources to drive results.
  • Ability to think strategically, analytically and creatively and to translate ideas into action through grantmaking and related programmatic work.
  • Command of equitable principles and how to apply them in philanthropic endeavors.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite, Zoom, internet and social media platforms.
  • Self-motivation, with the ability to be a productive and collaborative team member.

Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of preferred professional experience in philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, community health (health, human services, education, workforce development), or government agencies. Prior experience in grants administration, nonprofit work or a related field is a plus.
  • Familiarity with philanthropy or foundation operations.

Education: Undergraduate degree is required, master’s degree is preferred in field related to social drivers of health.
