Tackling the Social Determinants of Health through Place-Based Initiatives

Recent interest in the social determinants of health has brought about a new wave of place-based community change initiatives aimed at improving health. This webinar explored how health foundations are using place-based strategies to help create healthy and equitable communities. Participants discussed the challenges associated with place-based approaches, and heard how funders are building on past comprehensive community change initiatives. Speakers included: Paula Braveman of the University of California, San Francisco; Jacqueline Martinez Garcel of the New York State Health Foundation; and Irfan Hasan of The New York Community Trust.
