Promoting Equity Through Workforce Innovations: Impact of Dental Therapy in Tribal and Indigenous Communities
August 20, 2019 2:00 pm Eastern Time
The practice of dental therapy, which expands the oral health workforce to include mid-level providers, is widely recognized as an oral health equity best practice. It has been championed and promoted by tribal and indigenous communities as a successful intervention that increases access to care, addresses vast oral health disparities, and improves oral health outcomes. This webinar discussed the historical and social contexts of oral health disparities experienced by tribal communities around the world and the evolution of dental therapy as a successful care model which supports locally representative, community-oriented, and culturally appropriate care for these populations. Speakers included Carolyn Angus and Brett Weber of the National Indian Health Board.
