Rhetoric to Reality: Meaningful Consumer Engagement in Health Innovation

Despite emerging consensus on the importance of engaging consumers in health care policy and programs, there remains uncertainty about the best way to accomplish this. To better understand the most effective strategies for engaging consumers—particularly those with complex health and social needs—the Center for Consumer Engagement in Health Innovation launched the Consumer Voices for Innovation program in 2017. This two-year program supported six local and state consumer health advocacy organizations to identify, organize, and build the leadership of consumers to achieve policy and program change. During this webinar, speakers shared lessons learned from the formal evaluation of the project and from the grantees themselves. Speakers included Andi Mullin of the Center for Consumer Engagement in Health Innovation, Carrie Fisher and Leah Zallman of the Institute for Community Health, and Sherman Pines and Marjorie Waters of the Rhode Island Organizing Project.
