Last summer the United States saw a record number of child refugees and migrants arrive on our Southern border seeking refuge from violence in Mexico and Central America. Foundations and local and state governments across the country mobilized in response. A year later, how are the tens of thousands of children – sometimes referred to as unaccompanied minors – faring in the communities where they have been placed? What are their current needs? How will changes in policy and social-political conditions affect future migration? In this webinar, participants heard from experts about the current situation, recent changes, and their implications for current and future flows of child refugees. Speakers included: Lisa Frydman of Kids in Need of Defense; Marc Rosenblum of the Migration Policy Institute; Karen Musalo of the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, Hastings College of the Law; and Tara Magner of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
