State-based Advocacy for the Public’s Health

Thursday, March 14th, from 3:00 – 4:30 EST

For decades, experts have been ringing alarm bells about the fragile state of America’s public health infrastructure and inadequate advocacy to support ongoing public health issues. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated these issues, further eroding the trust in public health institutions and challenging their authority. To investigate the current state of public health advocacy, The Network for Public Health Law conducted a 50-state scan to determine the robustness of public health advocacy at the state level.

Participants joined this informal discussion to learn about the state of public health advocacy, what funders are currently doing to bolster public health advocacy, and what they can do. McClain Bryant Macklin, Vice President of Policy and Impact at Health Forward Foundation, moderated the webinar. Speakers included Maddy Frey, a Public Health Evaluation Consultant for Frey Evaluation; Martha Katz, Vice-chair of the board for Georgia Health Foundation; Cindy Zeldin, Vice President of Health Policy and Government Affairs for Georgia Health Initiative, and Ellen Quigley, Vice President & Chief Grantmaking Officer for the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation.
