The California Endowment announced the appointment of four new board members who are experts in their respective fields of small business finance, economic development, health care delivery, medical research and education, policy and movement building, and Native American health.
Kurt Chilcott joins the board as a recognized leader in economic development and small business finance, with his service effective May 15, 2019. For more than 35 years, Mr. Chilcott has led innovative successful organizations and programs in the public and nonprofit sectors, and for more than 20 years has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the San Diego, California-headquartered CDC Small Business Finance. The nonprofit organization has experienced tremendous growth, establishing offices throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada, and maintaining its rank as the top-volume CDC in the nation under his leadership.
Katherine A. Flores, MD, joins the board as a national leader in primary health care and the development of a diverse health workforce, with her service effective May 20, 2020. Dr. Flores currently serves as a family physician in private practice in an all-woman, bilingual medical group in Fresno, California. She will begin her service on the board effective May 20, 2020. Dr. Flores is also an Associate Clinical Professor in Family Medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine and the Director of the UCSF Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research (LaCMER), an organization that works with disadvantaged students to help prepare them to become health care professionals who will ultimately return to the Central Valley to provide culturally competent healthcare to the medically underserved.
Britta Guerrero joins the board as Chief Executive Officer of the Sacramento Native American Health Center, Inc. (SNAHC), a AAAHC accredited Patient Centered Medical Home and nonprofit urban health center, with her service effective May 15, 2019. SNAHC has emerged as a leader in the provision of quality health care delivered through a culturally competent, family-centered and wrap-around delivery system. To further demonstrate their commitment health leadership and to the patient centered philosophy, SNAHC was the first organization in California to receive recognition as a AAAHC-Patient Centered Health Home.
Vien Truong, Esq., President of the Dream Corps, joins the board, effective May 15, 2019. The Dream Corps brings people together to solve America’s toughest problems by supporting initiatives that close prison doors and open doors of opportunity for all. The Dream Corps includes Green For All, which works to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty, #Cut50, which works to reduce crime and incarceration in all 50 states, and #YesWeCode, which works to help 100,000 young women and men of diverse backgrounds find success in the tech sector. Ms. Truong is a policy expert and movement builder who has been a key architect in building an equitable and sustainable economy in underserved communities.

Dr. Janine Davidson and Morris Price
Rose Community Foundation added two new board members in 2019: Dr. Janine Davidson and Morris Price. They join 16 existing trustees including Katherine Gold, who will remain Board Chair through 2019. Steven A. Cohen, Executive Vice President of The Anschutz Corporation, was announced as Board Chair-Elect.
Janine Davidson, PhD is the President of Metropolitan State University of Denver. Prior to her appointment in 2017, Ms. Davidson served as the 32nd Undersecretary of the United States Navy and the President’s appointed “Chief Management Officer” for the Navy and Marine Corps. Her appointment followed nearly 30 years of government and academic service in national-security policy and academia. Dr. Davidson began her career as an Air Force officer and cargo pilot and was a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Squadron Officer School. Currently, she serves as a member of the Denver Mayor’s Education Compact, as Co-Chair of Denver’s “Complete Count” census committee and as a board member of the Downtown Denver Partnership and the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation.
Morris W. Price, Jr. is Vice President and Executive Director of City Year Denver. Previously, Mr. Morris was the District Director for Colorado's 1st Congressional District and served as the National Program Officer for the Gill Foundation, providing technical assistance and financial support to national nonprofits involved in LGBT advocacy and civil rights. Mr. Morris spent 15 years in higher education administration working for institutions including DePauw University, Montclair State College, NYU, and Wabash College, and served as the Director of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Denver.

Missouri Foundation for Health announced that Stacey Easterling, Vice President of Programs, has left the foundation to pursue other opportunities that match her strengths, passion, and sense of purpose. Ms. Easterling, as the head of the program area for the past three years, has helped the foundation get to a pivotal point in its work, allowing the foundation to make notable strides and community connections under her leadership.
Drawing on her nearly 20 years in the field of philanthropy, Ms. Easterling has realized that her career calling is in addressing issues of equity and social justice at the community level, and she is excited to find a space where she can be fully engaged and witness, firsthand, the progress of the work and its impact on the people.

Dr. Peter Long and Carolyn Wang Kong
Dr. Peter Long, President and CEO, is leaving Blue Shield of California Foundation to take on a new opportunity as the Senior Vice President of Health Care and Community Transformation for Blue Shield of California.
Since 2010, Dr. Long has been a driving force in building a world-class foundation that has transformed health care for low-income Californians and tirelessly worked to end domestic violence. Over the past nine years, in partnership with the foundation’s board and incredible staff, he has supported significant improvements in access to health care and domestic violence services and engaged patients and survivors in shaping the services they receive. He leaves a vibrant foundation with a diverse, talented, and dedicated team and a clear vision for the future.
Dr. Raymond Baxter will serve as CEO during the transition. Dr. Baxter, a retired health care executive and respected philanthropic leader, currently serves as a Trustee on the foundation’s board. We are confident that the foundation will continue to flourish under Dr. Baxter’s leadership. The board will immediately begin a national search for the next President and CEO. Through this leadership transition, the foundation remains committed to achieving its mission to build lasting and equitable solutions that make California the healthiest state and to end domestic violence. It remains steadfast in living the values of equity, partnership, possibility, and integrity.
Additionally, Carolyn Wang Kong has been promoted to Chief Program Director at Blue Shield of California Foundation. Ms. Kong joined the foundation four years ago, leading some of its highest profile work and supporting its grantmaking and program efforts to advance multi-sector collaboration as an approach to addressing the complex drivers of poor health and domestic violence in California communities. Her passion for creating positive social change and her connections within the philanthropic world and with the communities the foundation serves makes her an excellent choice for this key role as it seeks to expand its reach and impact on the factors that influence health and well-being.

The Paso del Norte Community Foundation (PDNCF) welcomed Erica Salas as Director of Partnerships & Donor Relations. Ms. Salas comes to PDNCF with over a decade of nonprofit experience in media communications, event planning, and strategic fundraising. She will be responsible for helping grow the assets of PDNCF by supporting the nearly 90 agency funds managed by the foundation, cultivating partnerships with nonprofit organizations, and engaging current and future donors on both sides of the United States-Mexico border.
Prior to joining PDNCF, Ms. Salas served as the Special Events Coordinator for the El Paso Zoological Society and as the Community Manager – Special Events for the American Cancer Society. Ms. Salas is a member of the El Paso and Hispanic Chambers, the El Paso Society of Human Resources Management, and the Public Relations Association of the Southwest.

J. Everett Wilson
Health Foundation of South Florida announced that J. Everett Wilson Esq., a shareholder at AmLaw 100 firm Polsinelli, has been elected Chairman of its board of directors. The board leads south Florida’s largest health philanthropy dedicated to achieving a culture of health in the region. Mr. Wilson has served on the board since 2015.
As a shareholder at Polsinelli and Co-Founder of Polsinelli’s Miami office, Mr. Wilson represents health care providers, insurers, and other entities in the health care industry. With experience in almost every aspect of health law, he focuses primarily on issues relating to Medicare and Medicaid provider operations, managed care, and the regulatory and business issues specific to health care mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Wilson’s professional memberships include the American Health Lawyers Association and The Florida Bar’s Health Law Section, where he is Chair-Elect. His charitable activities have included serving on the boards of the South Florida chapters of the American Red Cross and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
